De wereld van de kauwen - The world of the jackdaws (Kapel van Gaverland)

Flanders-inside-feb2007-Brugge-kapelGaverland1

Treetops, rooftops and chimneys, chapeltops : there is the jackdaw’s world.

Boomtoppen, daknokken en schoorstenen, kapeldaken : daar is de kauwenwereld.

The Jackdaw and his fellow-crows I always find the most intelligent of birds. They display a definite thought-process that we can almost read. Lovely shots of them in their element!

Misschien is voorzien dat we zo bouwen opdat voor er ieder een plekje is.

Mooie foto's. Maar ik vind die kauwen maar
"spooky". Merkwaardige liefde voor plekjes....

maybe? Both shots are very nice, they are even a little spooky because of the jackdaw’s. So, this is just a thought: Maybe you could try them once in B&W with lots of contrast. I think it would turn out great too!

picturecave I have always loved a flight of Jackdaws; there is a freedom to the way they move about. The picture of the Madonna with the birds are great, it is almost as if they have a private conversation. Well spotted.

In-SPIRE-ing!
Are Jackdaws/Crows/Ravens harbingers of Death and Doom over there? During the Plague they were so abundant thanks to all of available 'protein' but are they still associated with ill fortune. I cannot help but see the contradiction between them and the church (which was a symbol of hope at one time) night and day.

North American traditions associate them with Magical Ancestors. They are such big, clever birds..and beautiful. Your photos are very beautiful..we of course don't have anything older than a couplke hundred years over here...except for Dick Clark.

both shots are just lovely! i was wondering, since jackdaws are so dark, are they related to crows? my father used to tell me how intelligent crows are; he said if ten men go into a barn and, after several minutes, nine come out, crows won't go in. they know the tenth man is still in there. they must have some way of counting.
