Grijze, grijze, grijze dagen, laat ons wat foto’s kijken van Spanje.

Grey, grey, grey days, so let’s look at some photos of Spain.

Cuddly bear found !!

… in El Torcal de Antequera (Parque Natural), Spain.  If you know the kid who lost this  cuddly bear here, let her/him know ! The parents can ask the park guard to send it to them.

And if you are visitor 6000, will you let it know here ?

Lemons : an overwhelming experience

While driving through the mountain area in region Malaga-Granada, we stopped along the road by an lemon orchard and were overwhelmed by the humming of bees.  Together with the many birds that always seem to sing, this was the orchestra of nature performing : an amazing wonderful experience, very contrasting to the human noise that always surrounds me in Flanders.

An intention

Statue of a naked virile man ( Sevilla - Réal Alcazar 11 ), fish under this feet, a god of the sea ?  And those huge palm trees : so exotic for everybody who lives more to the north.

Anyway : I have to place this photo here to remind me NOT to be shy when there is a photo I really want to take.

……….  Yes, I wanted a picture of his front side J  It was a beautiful and expressive front side J and when I was looking how to take the picture and choosing a position,  some men kept standing there, looking at me all the time and I got embarrassed and so I took this picture instead of the one I really wanted to.  Shame on me !

Lately when I was in Zeeland there was a man with a huge grey beard standing at the border of the Plaat van de Vliet ( nature reserve ) and he fitted so well with the landscape, that it would have made a great picture, but I didn’t dare to ask him if I could take his picture, so this is something I really have to learn !

This man had a little car with a name painted on : de pruttelpot.  A translation trial : the simmering pot, the percolating pot.

Sevilla - Réal Alcazar 8 : under the palace …

... there is this.  Couldn’t find a word of explanation, so what I imagine is that it is a bathing place : very refreshing in hot summers, sphere lighting, mysterious music (no, not by blind and castrated musicians as it might have been), an erotic atmosphere, ….

All these pictures inside the Réal Alcazar are made with a mini tripod, very small, fits in your pocket.  It is rather dark such a palace, not enough light to work without flash (although with increasing amazement you see many people do so) and when you flash (standard and automatic flash because your company does not want to wait everywhere and every time - when alone you have time to experiment ) the colors are not warm and natural anymore.

So, a mini tripod is the solution : now you can make photos using the light situation of the moment and keep the natural colors.

When I left the palace, I saw that tripods were forbidden !  It can’t be because they damage the floors since tripods have rubber feet.  Could it be because with a tripod you can make better pictures ?

The oldest ceiling that was preserved.  It was in a bedroom and on the wooden ceiling stars are painted as if you look at heaven.  In one of the later bedrooms, the ceiling was open in the middle, so on a warm summer night you could sleep inside but under a star-spangled sky.  Yes, that IS romantic.   Today there is a glass cupola, it does not really fit in the room.

A patio (let’s call it  an indoor garden, the word ‘binnentuin’ is not in the dictionary ) : a wise idea in a hot climate, if you ask me.  The mostly square garden (with tiles and often a fountain, a pool, orange trees) has a walking path under the next floor (supported on pillars)  : so it is most if not all of the time in the shade, and cool.   The garden has also a lot of shade because it is surrounded by the walls.  In the patio you can enjoy being outside in private and without getting sunburned or being in the full heat.

In order to deal with the heat, the royals lived downstairs in the summer.  In the winter they moved upstairs because that was warmer.

Robust at the outside, this palace and gardens in Mujédar style (after the Moors were conquered, the Christian rulers took Moorish craftsmen in service to decorate and build) are very refined and like a tale of 1001 nights. In the next days I will show and tell you more.

Sevilla - white doves

The Plaza de America was the site of the Spanish-American exposition of 1929.

The white doves are a gift of the Philippines for this exposition.

Sevilla - Plaza de America

When walking in the Parque de Maria Luisa, you suddenly come to a little square full of white pigeons.

It is a shame that one of the reading girls statues lost her head.  Busses with tourists stop, drop their passengers, snip snap and click clack and on the bus again.

Sevilla : public trashcans as tripods

Another fountain that I found very beautiful.  Also notice the blue Christmas lights in the orange trees.  All Christmas street lights were blue in Sevilla.

I think I have used about every public trashcan as a tripod to make pictures in the evening.

Sevilla : Beware for the fortune tellers however

This Plaza is also the place of the fortune tellers ( gypsies ?) .  When such a woman gets close enough to you to bless you with a little branch of Buxus, you’re lost because then you have accepted a blessing and you get a prediction as well, BUT of course it is without discussion that you pay for it !! and that you pay the price that they want you to pay for it !  That not all woman of whatever age are getting ecstatic (on the contrary ) of hearing that they will get “mucho forte bambinos”  is not yet part of their world.  I escaped, my sister in law had warned me.   I wonder what they tell the men : also mucho forte bambinos ?
